Radio

Without radio technology, a late 19th Century invention, there would have been no cell phones, Wi-Fi or GPS. Radio waves have since been used to transmit sound, image and data. In its infant years, radio was used predominantly in maritime communication, notably during WWI. Later on radio broadcasts became a major tool of disseminating information and entertainment.

Three national broadcasting programmes – two of the state-owned Bulgarian National Radio and one of the private Darik Radio, two dozens of private ones with coverage in the cities and some 70 regional radio stations currently exist in Bulgaria.
