History of Classified Telephone Directories

In 1883 in the USA a printer used yellow paper to print a telephone directory as they ran out of white. This was the origin of the term ‘yellow pages’.

The first business telephone directory was produced in 1886 by Reuben Donnelley based on business name, address, telephone and type of the business (i.e. business classification). Today there are classified directories in most developed and developing countries across the world.

Classified directories have become part of everyday life in most countries around the world. For example, in the USA, 22% of all shoppers are influenced in their purchase decision by yellow pages* . The concept of classifying information about businesses and putting it in an easy to use format so consumers can find what they’re looking for quickly and efficiently has proved to be a success. The benefits of a directory such as Golden Pages are many for both users and advertisers.

Bulgaria was one of the very few countries where the directory arena hadn’t been truly developed. With the economy constantly improving, falling unemployment and growing domestic expenditure, the overall demand for goods and services will increase. In this climate of growth, Golden Pages serves as an invaluable source of information for buyers in their search for sellers, as well as for businesses wishing to reach their target audiences.
